New York declares a state of emergency as thousands of flights are affected by a storm in the United States.

Snow advisories were posted on social media by John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, and LaGuardia Airports, warning that the weather could cause more flight delays. States of emergency were declared in New Jersey and New York.
Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, wrote on X, “That white stuff is coming, NYC! No matter how much we receive, we are prepared.” Later, he posted a picture of the city streets being treated by snowploughs and salt spreaders.
The last significant snowstorm in New York City occurred in 2022, when Central Park received 8 inches of snow.
“I advise everyone to follow local forecasts and avoid needless travel,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement on Friday. If you must travel, have a strategy, move slowly, and allow enough time to reach your destination safely.
Tahesha Way, the governor of New Jersey, posted on X on Friday: “I have issued a State of Emergency throughout the state, starting this afternoon, due to the heavy snowstorm, with the possibility for ice and dangerous conditions.
“Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and keep an eye on official updates. “New Jersey, be careful!” From Long Island to upstate New York, six to eleven inches of snow were expected, with a possible twelve inches, according to the National Weather Service.
To treat ice roadways, the Department of Sanitation in New York has prepared 700 million pounds of salt. Airports all throughout the nation have been affected by the cold weather. Snow started to fall at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday, causing travel delays in San Francisco and Orlando.
CW News reports that hundreds of flights have been delayed at airports in Florida. Two ski patrollers at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, a resort southeast of Yosemite National Park, were hurt in an avalanche on Friday morning and transported to a hospital, according to a resort spokesperson.
Since Tuesday, the resort has witnessed more than five feet (1.5 meters) of snow. Traveling across mountain passes was dangerous due to the Sierra Nevada’s predicted 2 inches (5 cm) of snowfall per hour.
On Thursday, a backcountry skier buried in an avalanche close to the Mount Rose ski resort on the outskirts of Reno was saved by local authorities.
